Hi Alums!

I graduated with a B.A. in Political Science from Lehigh in 2013 and an M.A. in 2014; now, I’m the press secretary for PA Senate Democratic Leader Jay Costa and the Democratic caucus. I’ve been with the Senate since last fall; before that I was doing public relations consulting for several years, and was the Democratic analyst for This Week in Pennsylvania (a public affairs show that runs Sunday morning around the state).

Last year, I won the Central Penn Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 distinction, and won the same award from City & State PA magazine in 2016.

I feel like I use my degrees from Lehigh almost every day, especially now that I’m working in government. The practice of government is, of course, different than the theory, but having studied policy and politics at Lehigh absolutely makes me better at my job now. A lot of my courses in the undergrad and grad program highlighted the history of major policy programs in the U.S. – and that enlightens the work I do now at the state level. I’m also really grateful for the fast pace of the Master’s program – it forced me to be a really fast reader and writer, which are critical skills in this job.

On the personal front, I sit on the board of the United Way of Pennsylvania and volunteer with a local Girl Scout troop. My husband Sean and I live in Carlisle, Pa. and are training for our first half-marathon.
